Drink Deeply From the Void: A Simple Practice

I journeyed recently to ask about overcoming fatigue.

Fatigue is a humbling, worthy teacher, often showing up when we're in a soul-descent, when we’re fed up with the status quo. It loves to show up amidst the tension between who we once were and who we are yet becoming. Fatigue calls out to our deeper wild nature, asking us to slow down, integrate and rebel against the speed machine— a machine which simultaneously shames us for fatigue while perpetuating it.

One thing my guides say again and again is that humans living right now don’t really understand time and this misunderstanding contributes to much of our fatigue. It’s true that we are feeling fatigue as a global epidemic. I wonder, did our more recent ancestors also feel this way, but keep mum about it? Did they “muscle up”? Drink and work it away? And what of our far-distant ancestors, who still fully inhabited a circular understanding of time? Did they feel the heavy, dense pull of what we call chronic fatigue, or were they teeming with the vitality found in honoring natural cycles?

Chronic fatigue in modern life for the soulful person (which is every person) is nothing to be ashamed about. I had never experienced it much before motherhood, and have watched it peak through my own mother’s illness and death and into the current 2020 pandemic. My curiosity is fully engaged now, and though it’s not an easy state to find myself too often in, I’m choosing to dance with it in deep reverence for what it wishes to show me. It’s illuminating a pathway to a pace and quality of life I most desire to live, not the one the over-culture wants to impose on me. As I open and listen to fatigue, its ebb and flow, I’m removing layer upon layer of what is not mine and never was, revealing more and more my true Light and Power. It’s getting me moving in many new and different ways.

During this particular journey, I received a lovely technique for helping heal fatigue that I'd like to share~

I'm brought by one of my dearest guides to a little forest waterfall & pool. The forest is exceptionally green and dank and the water is jet back. Not mucky or dirty~ in fact I can smell its freshness and minerality. I'm told this is the Fountain of the Void and invited to drink deeply. It tastes so pure, so clean~ like the freshest spring water in the world.

Then, I'm invited to mirror this practice in daily life by closing my eyes when drinking water throughout my day, especially when feeling pulled in many directions by mental chatter, imagining the water is jet black and is nourishing me to the core. I’m told this will help establish more fully the part of me that knows the Void to be THE oft-forgotten place of no-thingness where ALL energy begins, returns to and is regenerated. It’s also a great way to clear the mind. As poet David Whyte says, “to deepen the conversation, stop having it.”

I’ve been enjoying this practice immensely and already count it among the most potent I’ve ever received.
