Believing is Seeing: Reviving Childlike Wonder
Wonder & longing is our language as children. If something calls to us, we simply move our whole being towards it. Dangerous or soft and cuddly (or both), we just go towards our longing, propelled by wonder. Dream worlds, mythic beings, the eternal, the intelligence of Wild Horses or Peonies or Stars- to children, all exist in fullness.
Sensing the presence of the mystical is a basic human right.
But then one day, someone says: They're just stories. It was just a dream. It's just your imagination. Myths aren't real. Get your head out of the clouds... Grow up.
Those same people, who read us all those stories. Who helped us believe in magic. Whose eyes joined us in wonder for a time...They betray us.
This betrayal wedges deep down in us, and we walk through the world unsure of ourselves, doubting our magic, thinking we're alone.
It's not that they forgot wonder or stopped believing in magic. It's just that they, too, were betrayed.
And thus, growing up comes to mean letting go of wonder, being suspicious of our deepest longing, opting for safety and control and labeling it responsibility.
But response-ability was our childhood super-power.
So, now that we know the dangers of a cliff edge, a hot stove, a maniac... maybe we can start to be responsible again like that: Strong enough to respond to what's being asked of us, according to our longing. Wise enough to know: ℬℯ𝓁𝒾ℯ𝓋𝒾𝓃ℊ 𝒾𝓈 𝒮ℯℯ𝒾𝓃ℊ.
Remember: Horse is still out there, patiently awaiting, at the edge of the Night Sky that spreads its cloak of possibility across your life... ready to carry you through meadows of whispering Peony, out to the Star you were always meant to live on.
