The Art of Great Endings

“The only trust required is to know that when there is one ending, there will be another beginning.”
- DR. CLARISSA PINKOLA-ESTES

We do "new beginnings" really well in the culture. We're so into starting over, clean slates, new year's resolutions. But we don't do endings every well, culturally speaking.

Learning to dance with endings is a pristine gift to the Soul. Letting endings rock, cradle, cook, simmer, sculpt, paint, prophesy us— this is a true generosity of spirit towards our future selves… and our descendants too.

Here are some journal questions to help you hone your skill in doing endings really well (It helps to first clearly name what’s ending for you, whether it’s the year itself, a job, an old pattern or something else):

  1. How is this ending cooking me? What raw ingredients are now beginning to simmer down and meld together into something new, within me or in my outer life?

  2. How can I let this ending rock or cradle me, the way a mother might lovingly tend her child? In other words, how can I give myself the gentleness and compassion needed to move through this ending in a transformative way?

  3. How is this ending shaping me? What does it reveal about me? How am I changed / changing?

  4. What picture is being painted for me, by this ending, of what can be, what’s coming or how best to move forward?

Wishing you the Joyful Ending that you most assuredly deserve!! (Hint: Happy Endings are a decision to be made, not a fate to hope for or balk at).
